Portland, Maine Congress Square, Circa 1963 Poster

Looking east from Congress Square on Congress from High Street, circa 1963. The Charles Q Clapp Block at Congress Square, built in 1825, known as the Upper HH Hay building as the apothecary occupied it for many years; the third story designed by John Calvin Stevens as added in 1922. Building was restored by Greater Portland Landmarks in 1980. To the left beyond the corner is the William Hammond Heirs Block; originally built as a house in 1857, additions were added to the front and rear in 1880, designed by Francis Fassett. Congress Square Hotel was built by Joseph Henry Rines in 1896 on the site of the old City Hotel on the corner with Forest Avenue. The dining room was built on the top floor, which was later the studios of WCSH Radio and Television from 1925 to 1976. The larger building to the right is the Baxter Memorial Building at the corner of Oak & Congress Streets. Built 1894-96, designed by Francis H. Fassett in the Queen Anne style. A complete remodeling in 1954 removed the turret and covered all the decorative trim in stucco, leaving only the decorative gable at the top of the building.

My Bible verse postcard, turned out excellent. I love it and have it already framed. It was so reasonably priced for something done so well. Thank you to Zazzle and the artist! I thought it looked exactly like what I ordered. Perfect.

Poster is printed clearly, good quality . Inclusive of many prints . The shipping was the problem. Box was flimsy and item got bent.. only suggestion would have been to put in a canister or mark fragile. Printing was exactly as shown
