Templar Castle, Ponferrada, Spain The castle is situated on a hill at the confluence of the rivers Boeaza and Sil. Ferdinand II gave the privileges to the Templar order to build the castle in 1180. The knights had to protect the pilgrimage route, the Way of St James. The order was disbanded in 1311 and the castle was given to Count of Lemos. During the Catholic Monarchs the castle became property of the Crown.
