Pollat River Waterfall - Neuschwanstein Castle Postcard
This is a view of the Pollat River Waterfall and Gorge (Pollatschlucht) as seen from Queen Mary's Bridge (Marienbrucke). The bridge was originally built my King Maximilian II of Bavaria, in honour of his wife. The bridge was later rebuilt by his son Ludwig II, who used it to admire Neuschwanstein Castle (Schloss Neuschwanstein), which lies just downstream, and is one of three castles Ludwig occupied or built during his lifetime, the others being Linderhof Palace, located to the south over the Bavarian Alps, and Hohenschwangau Castle or Schloss Hohenschwangau (High Swan District Palace), built by his father.
The water fall lies just beneath the bridge, and is not readily apparent if your focus is on Neuschwanstein, as this is a favourite spot among tourists to capture the beauty of the castle and the surrounding countryside.
