Plymouth Rock Postcard
On 21 December 1620, the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. The first exploring party sent from the "Mayflower" was attacked by Indians and the Pilgrims lived in constant fear of them. One reason the Inaidna were hotstile towards all white people was because an English sea catain had carried off some Indians to Europe five or six years before, including one named Tisquantum. Tisquantum learned to speak English and returned to America near Plymouth, but avoided the Pilgrims. (Source of information: "The New Century History of the United States" by Edward Eggleston, circa 1907. Graphic dates to an 1850s history book.
