As you can see, the room is full of bottles and jars, you really do have to be a chemist to create medicine. If you mix the ingredients correctly, you have a foul tasting medicine that cures any disease. Mix it wrong, and you get a foul tasting poison that kills you in mere moments. Many cures in the past contained all sorts of nasty narcotics, mercury etc. While we may roll eyes at this, they didn't know mercury was toxic. In fact people used it up till the 1940s, poisoning a lot of people in the process.
