Pharmacy - Health tonics Postcard

Pharmacy - Health tonics Postcard

Tonic water was invented in the late 1700s. It was created by a scientist to help combat scurvy, but the formula was never patented. Instead it as given to a sea captain to make it for his crew, later on they made into a soda that was marketed as a cure all. They would make up all claims of what it could cure. Later on they started adding other ingredients to make their version more distinctive than the others. It also allowed them to market it to different people. Many drinks focused on the loss of energy and headaches. They used caffeine and narcotics to create the brew, which would fix the headache, until the rebound headache came later on. To which they went back to get more. A certain brand of cola that used Coca leaves, originally was branded as Wine Cola, it had alchohol in it, enough that probation made them remove it. They made a non alcoholic soda, changed its name, and its the stuff we drink today. Over they years they found the easiest way to sell soda was at pharmacies, because they were pushed as a medicine. Many soda's were invented by pharmacists, like ginger ale, and a certain name brand that use Pepper in its name (which was said that it was supposed to taste like how his pharmacy smelled, kind of fruity and kind of not). Eventually soda didn't have medicine, just flavours, and its what we use today. Before bottled soda was invented, if you wanted a refreshing drink, you would have had to go to a pharmacy to get it. Later on soda fountains opened up.
