A tabby cat sits upright, showing off its striped fur of dark grey, cream and orange. The tail with bands of orange and black with white tipped end sweeps in front of its forelegs. The family cat, with a black metal studded collar and blue ribbon, is seated on an armchair with dark red covering, near a window with a potted plant with red flowers. The cat's eyes are orange and black with an expression of curiosity on its face. From a vintage engraving by unknown artist in an undated publication; research suggests it dates from the period 1860 - 1865
