Peak's Island Forest City Rink circa 1890 Poster

The Forest City Rink was built in 1884 as a roller-skating rink by the Forest City Steamboat Company to attract summer visitors to the island. Many "roller polo" tournaments were held here. In 1888 a toboggan chute was built inside the building, seen here with three cars and riders on the inclined track; a band can also be seen on the suspended stage. It was converted to the Gem Theatre in 1898, remaining in operation until the mid-1920s and destroyed by a fire in 1934.
