Classic artwork is 'Pandora' (1873) by Alexandre Cabanel, a professor of painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris who specialized in portraits of "High Society." In this nineteenth century oil-on-canvas painting, he uses the likeness of Swedish soprano Christine Nilsson as the basis for Pandora from Greek mythology--the woman who opened a forbidden box and released all the troubles that afflict humanity.
