Pancake Rocks New Zealand Postcard
The Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki are a limestone formation of heavily eroded stacks where layers of rock resemble stacks of pancakes. Formed over 30 million years ago, these structures are located on the rugged West Coast of the South Island within Paparoa National Park.
At high tide, the Tasman Sea rushes into narrow vertical shafts, creating powerful blowholes that shoot spray high into the air with a thunderous boom. The area is a spectacular display of the relentless power of the ocean against the land.
