The Painted Desert, a historic landmark that is located off route 66, overlooks the Painted Desert within Painted Forest National Park in Arizona. It was once privately owned by Herbert David Lore and known as the Stone Tree House as it was built of petrified wood. Serving food and drinks, selling Indian arts and crafts and offering small rooms it became a popular stop for tourists . It now serves as a museum within Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona.
