The P-38 Lightning was known by the German Luftwaffe pilots as the ""Fork-Tailed Devil"" due to its unique design. This design was used by the 49th Fighter Squadron in Foggia, Italy. It is a colourful cartoon of that insignia on a black background with goldenrod numbers.
