Charakterisch für die von Bergen umgebene Hauptstadt Innsbruck sind ihre Bauten aus der Zeit des Habsburgerreiches wie die barocke Hofburg und die gotische Hofkirche. Das Wahrzeichen der Stadt ist das Goldene Dachl, ein im 15. Jahrhundert im Auftrag des habsburgischen Kaisers Maximilian I. entstandener Erker mit glänzenden Kupferschindeln.
