Old State House Postcard
Old State House, Boston, MA Old State House is the oldest surviving public building in Boston. Built in 1713 it was designed by Robert Twelves. The Declaration of Independence was proclaimed from the east side balcony by Col. Thomas Crafts on July 18, 1776. The royal symbols, the lion and the unicorn on top of the building were removed and burned in King street. After the Revolution it served as the seat of the Massachusetts state government. Later it was used as the cityhall of Boston.
