The Old Cape Henry Lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark, built in 1792. It stands behind the new Cape Henry Lighthouse which was built in 1881. The plaque on the old lighthouse reads: First Lighthouse authorized by the First United States Congress. Erected in 1791. It lighted the entrance into Chesapeake Bay until 1881. Owned by the association for preservation of Virginia Antiquities. As deeded in 1930 by the Congress of the United States. The lighthouses are both located on Fort Story in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
