North Star Polo Club Postcard

I found one of these cards in my mailbox, "Time to renew your club membership." Features a polo player swinging his mallet while riding a moose. Things are a bit different here in Alaska. Actually, riding a moose as if it were a horse is not unheard of. Moose are easily trained when they are young and become close to their handlers. Sweden and Russia, and possibly some other Scandinavian countries experimented with moose cavalry units. Moose are far superior to horses as mounts in often marshy tundra and northern forests. Moose as cavalry mounts ultimately failed as the animals could not become accustomed to the noise created when weapons are fired.
