Newspaper Rock, Newspaper Rock State Historic Monument, UT Newspaper Rock is one of the largest concentrations of petroglyphs in the US. It's located between Monticello and Canyonlands National Park near the State Route 211. Almost every local culture carved petroglyphs on this rock. We spotted some carvings from 1911. Today the rock is under protection and some tourists carve a nearby rock. (I was wondering how archaeologist from the in the remote future will explain the use of a completely new rock surface in the 20th century?)
