Struma ovarii is a rare ovarian tumour which is defined by the presence of thyroid tissue. The overall mass consists of 50% or more of thyroid tissue. Most commonly, they occur as part of a teratoma. In this painting I have shown some very typical and obvious ovary histology including the corpus luteum and follicles. The red and black contrasting papillary structures are the malignant thyroid tissue.
