Not many fish are more incredibly beautiful than the blue marlin -- and not many fish are larger. The blue marlin is the largest of the Atlantic marlins and, seriously, one of the biggest fish in the world. As with some species, the female is often quite a bit larger than the male. Females can grow up to 14 feet long and can weigh more than 1,900 pounds, though the average runs more around 11 feet long and 300-ish pounds. A deep blue on top and silvery-white beneath, with a pronounced dorsal fin and a long, lethal, spear-shaped upper jaw (that some refer to as a bill), blue marlins are one of the most easily identifiable and recognizable fish in the world. Marlins are renown for their incredible stamina in a fight when they are hooked, which makes them a trophied favourite of big game fishermen.
