NC Wyeth Painting "Horse Jumping From Snake" Tile

NC Wyeth , was an American artist known for his realist paintings and illustrations. He studied at several institutions including Howard Pyle’s School of Art. At age 21 he was commissioned to illustrate for The Saturday Evening Post—an incredible accomplishment for someone of that age. During his lifetime, Wyeth became one of America’s greatest illustrators and he created over 3,000 paintings and illustrated 112 books. Perhaps one of his most celebrated accomplishments was his illustrations for the classic books: Treasure Island and Robinson Crusoe. His early trips to the western United States inspired a period of images of cowboys and Native Americans that dramatized the Old West. His depictions of Native Americans tended to be sympathetic, showing them in harmony with their environment.
