Native New Zealand Tui Poster

This high quality photo of a New Zealand native Tui perched atop the native Kowhai Tree was taken by New Zealand photographer and digital artist Carolyn Caine-Caitlin. The Tui is well known for it's beautiful song, which echoes throughout the ranges of Waitakere and elsewhere in the native bush of New Zealand. Their wings even have a noticeable sound when they fly past you! Most people believe the Tui to be black in colour, with a white tuft at the throat - the most recognizable feature of the Tui. But in fact, this beautiful bird's wings are luminous shades of purples, blues and greens.. amongst other features not usually seen from afar. The Tui is also famous for "getting drunk" upon the nectar of the Kowhai and other nectar bearing plants. Sometimes if you are lucky, you can see a whole tree full of them all getting drunk!
