The Blanket Signal 1894 Frederic Remington "The Blanket Signal" depicts a Native American Apache warrior on a hillside raising a red, black, and white blanket in his hand as a signal. Frederic Remington was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer who specialized in Western American art. His works depict the Western United States in the last quarter of the 19th century and featured cowboys, American Indians, and the US Cavalry. Remington was born in Canton, New York on October 4, 1861 and died near Ridgefield, Connecticut on December 26, 1909. He found inspiration in these subjects from an early age.
