Nasrcissus by Benczur Poster

This is a reproduction of the 1881 painting “Narcissus” by Gyula Benczur. This Hungarian artist early won international fame in the 1860’s. Much of his early work was done in Bavaria where he was commissioned by Ludwig II to paint rococo themes. Later he was successful in Prague and Weimar. Late in life he became a favourite in his native Hungary where he died in 1920 at the age of seventy-six. This painting is in the Magyar Nemzeti Galeria (Hungarian National Gallery) in Budapest.
