Nangoon Blossom, Unalaska Island Postcard
Nangoon plants (Rubus arcticus L. ssp. stellatus) are hard to find on Unalaska Island. They grow in the tundra and favour the high country. The nangoon plant is only a few inches tall with large leaves and a large single pink blossom. Each plant produces a single berry, which is said to be delicious, but very hard to find. The nangoon berry looks similar to a salmonberry, but it is much darker and less complex.
