The London Bridge that now spans a canal in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, has a fascinating and unusual history. Originally, this bridge was constructed in the 1830s and spanned the River Thames in London, England. Over time, the bridge began to sink due to the increased weight of modern traffic and was no longer suitable for London’s needs. In 1968, the City of London decided to sell the bridge. Robert P. McCulloch, the founder of Lake Havasu City and an American entrepreneur, purchased it for $2.46 million. The bridge was carefully dismantled, and each stone was numbered. The stones were shipped across the Atlantic Ocean and then transported overland to Arizona.
