"Slavia" (Portrait of Mary Josephine Crane Bradley)," was painted by Alphonse Mucha in 1908. The woman in this painting represents Slavia, Mucha's homeland. She is, in fact, Mary Josephine Crane Bradley, daughter of Mucha's friend and patron. She is a symbol of the former Czechoslovakian Republic (now the Czech Republic and Slovakia) in the same way than Uncle Sam is a symbol of America.
