Vintage illustration wild animal design featuring a Big Cat Puma in the wilderness by by Cuthbert Edmund Swan. From "My First Book of Animals" by Lena Dalkeith, c. 1918. The cougar (Puma concolor) aka mountain lion, puma, panther, or catamount, is native to the Americas. The Puma prefers habitats with dense underbrush and rocky areas for stalking, but can also live in open areas. Although large, the cougar is more closely related to smaller felines than to other big cats.
