Mount Nemrut is a monumental peak in Southeastern Turkey, rising to over 7,000 feet. Near its summit, it is adorned with the colossal statues of ancient kings, Greek deities, and guardian lions, which were erected by King Antiochus I of the Commagene kingdom in the 1st century BC. These remarkable statues, often headless, surround a huge tumulus (burial mound), symbolizing a sanctuary to his ancestors and himself. The site is a stunning testament to Commagene's eclectic religious beliefs, fusing Hellenistic and Persian traditions.
