[Hotta-mokko] The crest used by Masatoshi family from the branch family was 'At first, I used vertical wooden watermelons at the corner of the corner. When Masatoshi died, his family crest was changed to the current crest on July 22, 1679 (Kansei Choshu Shokafu), which is "Ima no mon" (current crest), which means "Hotta Mokuri" (a gourd of Hotta) of "Ishimochi Jinuki" (a kind of Japanese style tea cake with a base), which means that the head family had disappeared for nearly twenty years. In addition, the territory of the Shoshun Hotta family was transferred to the place of Ou, his descendant, and after 1746, it was returned to the place of Sakura, which was related to Shoshun. In the midst of the difficult national affairs at the end of the Edo period, Masayoshi HOTTA, the last roju (member of shogun's council of elders) of the Hotta family, was sent. Masayoshi II, who had fallen into a difficult situation after the conclusion of the Ansei Provisional Treaty with the US envoy Harris, had a violent fight outside the Sakurada-mon Gate, and instead appeared. (Written by Kenichi TAKAHASHI, "Family Crest of Daimyo Family" P213)/Hotta Mokuri is different from the one in which vertical wooden watermelons are simply made without stone holders.
