Let's face it: babies are gross. Not their fault, mind you, but there it is. They might be more pleasing if they were born with spots or fur, or at least ear tufts. And, sure, once they become college graduates they're relatively palatable. But the making of babies - in particular the later stages thereof - gives us the heebie-jeebies. If we had to involuntarily disgorge a homunculus onto the ER floor or dining room table the human race would have prolly died out long ago. In fact, when you take a hard look at a list of the requisite biological Rubik's cube of biology required, it's a miracle the miracle of birth happens at all. So give mom a little credit on her day. Sure, dad may have passed out cigars (or just passed out) but mom did the heavy lifting (you can tell by all of the grunting and sweating).
