An ancient mortise and tenon joint at Horyuji Temple in Nara, Japan, where several of the oldest wood buildings in the world reside and are recognized by the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE Committee.
Many of Horyuji's structures date to 607, so this joinery could be very old indeed.
