Moon viewing point By Andō, Hiroshige. Tsuki no misaki Print shows the view through two open sliding panels of a porch with large body of water beyond, several boats at anchor beneath a full moon; the shadow of a woman is visible on the left sliding panel and a lamp and eating utensils are at the far end of the porch. Born in Edo, Japan, Hiroshige’s family name was Tokitaro, but he adopted the name of his mentor as per the custom of the time. His first work was a sketch of a procession done at the age of ten, and earned him the title of a prodigy. In 1828, Hiroshige began his own studio, but eventually moved to Kyoto to produce landscapes. His prints became very popular and emulated upon his return to Edo.
