Mississippi Kite, John James Audubon Birder's Bird 2 Inch Round Button

Mississippi Kite is a member of the Kite family which is neither a hawk nor a falcon. It is grey and black in colour and has red eyes. They spend much of their time gracefully gliding on air currents. They catch some of their food in the air such as dragonflies and other flying insects. They can sometimes be seen doing a very fast dive where they will attempt to catch snakes, lizards, small birds and rodents in the treetops.
