Mimbres Scorpion-Snake-Fish Tile

Art based closely on a Mimbres bowl. Between approximately 200 and 1130 CE the Mimbres people lived peacefully in villages located in what today is southern New Mexico. They made astonishingly beautiful and dramatic painted designs of animals, people and dazzling geometrical figures on ceramic bowls which were generally about 11" in diameter. At about 1130 CE the Mimbres mysteriously seem to have disappeared but thousands of their painted bowls have survived. This particular design shows what might be a stylized scorpion -- but it seems to have a snake-like tail along with a caudal fish fin at the end! What were they thinking?!
