Mercator World Map Jigsaw Puzzle

Beautiful world map in classic Mercator projection. The Mercator map projection was invented by the Flemish geographer and cartographer Gerardus Mercator in 1569. It became the standard map projection for nautical purposes and is still used commonly for navigation. A variant of the Mercator projection is also used by Google. Something one has to bear in mind when looking at a Mercator map is that it distorts the size and shape of land masses, as the scale increases from the Equator to the poles. Thus Greenland, Canada, Skandinavia and Russia, for example, look much larger than they actually are. This beautiful map was created from NASA satellite images and data from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, showing a relief of the land surface and shaded ocean depths.
