This Particular design, is a mehndi Tree of Life. It is a mixed media piece, which was a collaborative effort - from sketch to digital finish - by the two artists of Henna Harmony. The Hamsa Hand: Traditionally used throughout the Middle East and North Africa, can often be seen in Mehndi artwork and is known as the hand of Hamsa or hand of Fatima. It is a sign of protection that also represents blessings, power, and strength, and is seen as a potent in deflecting the evil eye. Mehndi is a ceremonial art form which originated in ancient India. Muslims also use it as an indication of coming of age. Intricate patterns of mehndi are typically applied to brides before wedding ceremonies. The bridegroom is also painted in some parts of India. The word mehndi is derived from the Sanskrit word mendhikā. The use of mehndi is described in the earliest Hinduism's Vedic ritual books. Haldi (staining oneself with turmeric paste) as well as mehndi are Vedic customs, intended to be a symbolic representation of the outer and the inner sun. Vedic customs are centred around the idea of "awakening the inner light". I have eight senior dancers graduating from Fleet-Wood Dancentre this year, and I wanted to make them something special. Love this site, as there is such a selection that I was able to make eight unique dance totes for my dancers..... Also to be able to have my logo printed and included in the bags was the icing on the cake. Quality of the printing and the cotton was just perfect!! Cotton is so lovely to work with. I enjoy making "keepsake dance totes" for my students when they graduate!. The fabric presses beautifully. I love the thickness of the fabric. Has more substance than cotton bought at my local fabric store. The result is a sturdy bag, full of little storage pockets, and a lifetime memory. The inside of the dance totes were lined with fabric I ordered with my School logo. The printing was clear and sharp, colours vivid.
