Abstract oil circa 1919. Brilliant art for any wall. Alexej von Jawlensky, born in Russia of German nationality (1864-1941). A painter in Expressionism, who became interested in painting as early as age 16. His symbolic and expressive use of bright colour was more characteristic of van Gogh and Paul Gauguin than of the German Expressionists, with whom he had the closest contact.
