Maneki Neko Postcard
The maneki neko (beckoning cat) is a popular symbol in Asia and the Pacific, originating in Japan during the Edo period. It's thought that Tama, a Buddhist temple cat, beckoned a wandering Feudal Lord who was trapped in a forest during a heavy thunderstorm, into the temple and saved his life. Lighting struck the tree where the Feudal Lord had been standing. Since then, images of cats with a beckoning paw have graced stores, homes, and even stationery--inviting money, abundance, prosperity and happiness.
Plus, they're just darned cute. Original art by Ren Adams.
