This postcard features a man riding an elephant at Amber Palace in Jaipur India. There are various opinions about the origins of the name, Amber. One explanation is that it comes from "Ambikeshwar Temple" while another explanation is that it comes from Amba, the protector of the world.
In 1592, Raja Man Singh built this palace. The royal family had been residing here until Jai Singh II decided to move the capital to Jaipur and a new City Palace was built. Technically, the Amber Palace is joined with the Jaigarh Fort through a subterranean path. This was to allow the royal family in the palace to escape during times of war.
