Malcolm III became King of Alba (King of Scotland) after killing the previous king, Lulach. Malcolm claimed the throne as the son of the late King Duncan I. He married Margaret of Wessex, an Anglo-Saxon princess, and had eight children with her. He was killed near Alnwick alongside his eldest son. Through his granddaughter, Empress Matilda, he became an ancestor of the Plantagenet dynasty of England.
