Creator Review
This mug is decorated with a large detail image of one of Susan Shie's soft paintings (art quilts) called "Ardis and Betty: Making Salsa - 2 of Wooden Spoons (Wands) in the Kitchen Tarot." She made the piece in 2011, after the famous art quilt collector Ardis James and First Lady Betty Ford died July 7 and 8, 2011. Shie wanted to honor them both and tell many stories from their lives. She shows them making a batch of spicy tomato salsa in a kitchen, as their husbands look on, over their shoulders. The artist included Pete Seeger and Nelson Mandela, who were both born in the same year as Betty Ford. Also she put in her own personal stories. You can't read the tiny writing on the mug, but the text acts as a lively surface texture, while the images and colors are quite easy to see and enjoy! It's a bit brighter than I had hoped, but it'll do. I love how you so carefully pack mugs in a lot of bubble wrap and use a very sturdy box. Big thanks!

I was originally happy about my purchase and Nana loved the gift. HOWEVER, the description specifically says that these are microwave and dishwasher safe, BUT the first time Nana put this mug in the dishwasher it was destroyed. Not impressed..
