Major General Oliver Howard Poster

This is a colorized photograph of a vintage, black and white portrait of Maj. General Oliver Howard. It also appears in "The Generals at Fredericksburg" calendar available at Zazzle. Howard had the nickname of The Christian General because his decisions were often made around his evangelical views. He was a Union major-general during the Civil War, having commanded both the XI Corps and the IV Corps. During the war he was engaged in the battles of First Bull Run, Seven Pines, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Chattanooga, as well as the Atlanta Campaign, the Carolina's Campaign and Sherman’s March to the Sea. He died in 1909 at the age of 78. This portrait includes the general in a blue uniform, with brass buttons, gold insignia shoulder strap and a highlighted, black background.
