Louis Wain Cats Bedtime Poster

This reproduction is of Louis Wain's Cats in the Dormitory . Wain's life was an interesting one. He married the nanny of his sister (a woman who was ten years his senior which was scandalous at the time). However, three years after they were married, she developed breast cancer and her cat gave her great comfort and so he began to do extensive sketches of cats. Wain's illustrations often parodied human behaviour, satirizing fads and fashions of the day. He wrote, "I take a sketch-book to a restaurant, or other public place, and draw the people in their different positions as cats, getting as near to their human characteristics as possible.
