Longfin Snake-eel Poster

It is a member of the Snake eels family and is native to the Red Sea and East Africa to French Polynesia, north to the Ogasawara Islands, south to Australia. It resides in lagoons, estuaries and freshwater areas. It feeds on crustaceans and small fish. They are nocturnal hunters, often found buried or with their heads showing in mud or sand, waiting to ambush their prey. It can reach a maximum length of 108 cm (3.5 feet).
