At the top of this vintage patriotic postcard from 1908 is an eagle and a red, white and blue ribbon. Below is a scene from Richmond, Virginia, soon after the Confederate government evacuated. Union soldiers with rifles accompany Abraham Lincoln during his visit and African Americans can be seen behind them.
