Lhasa Tibet Postcard

Lhasa, the storied capital of Tibet, perches at an altitude of more than 3,600 metres on the vast Tibetan Plateau, where thin air shimmers above ochre rooftops and prayer flags flutter in the ever-present breeze. Dominating the skyline is the Potala Palace—once the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas—its white and crimson façades cascading down Red Hill in a monumental display of sacred architecture. Side streets reveal markets where yak-butter tea mingles with the clang of Buddhist prayer wheels, and vendors display turquoise-and-coral jewellery crafted by nomadic artisans. In the clear mountain air, the distant peaks of the Himalaya frame a panorama of sacred hills and monastic retreats, inviting visitors to pause and reflect. As night descends, rooftop terraces fill with the soft glow of butter-lamp ceremonies, and Lhasa’s blend of timeless tradition and high-altitude vitality lingers like a silent blessing under the star-strewn sky.
