LG LO” that our motto, tell everybody that’s the truth to follow! I’ve been wondering how to kick off this series on the beatitudes and the 10 commandments. I guess the best way to start is to point out why they were even created in the first place…the answer is “LOVE” and not just any type of love but love that protects, and does no harm to its neighbour. Everything God commands us to do is for our benefit, so we can (Spock imitation) “live long and prosper”. Even the first commandments about keeping God first aren’t for God’s security, but for our freedom and security. God is truth, and when we disregard truth we become slaves to a lie, a false god like: money, drugs or a relationship that will never truly satisfy. God wants us to be free from dysfunctions, and not be paralyzed with all types of addictions. So the greatest commandments are to: love God with our entire existence, and to treat others with the same kind of love and respect we want for ourselves. All the other commandments and laws hang on these two commands: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ -Matthew 22:37-40
