Le Spectre de la Rose Postcard

Wonderfully illustrated lithograph by French painter and fashion designer, George Barbier entitled, "Le spectre de la rose" (The Spirit of the Rose), 1914. This plate, done in shades of purple, is from "Album dédié á Tamar Karsavina", a book dedicated to the famous Russian ballerina, Tamara Karsavina (1882-1978). Le Spectre de la Rose is a short ballet about a young girl who dreams of dancing with the spirit of a souvenir rose from her first ball. Vaslav Nijinski danced The Rose and Tamara Karsavina danced The Young Girl.
