Le Chat Noir Postcard

The famous French cabaret venue Le Chat Noir was opened in1881 at 84 Boulevard Rochechouart in the Montmartre district of the city of Paris by the artist Rodolphe Salis. The nightclub closed in 1897 following Salis’s death but entered the hall of fame with the now famous Theophile-Alexandre Steinlen poster showing a black cat with magnificent whiskers. The poster, created by Swiss-born French Art Nouveau painter Steinlen in 1896, advertises a tour to other cities by the Le Chat Noir's cabaret artists.
