Lake Como Coaster

Lake Como is a glacial lake in Lombardy, northern Italy. Known in Italian as Lago di Como and historically as Lario, it covers about 146 square kilometres, making it Italy’s third-largest lake after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore. With depths of more than 400 metres, Lake Como is also one of the deepest lakes in Europe. Parts of its lakebed lie more than 200 metres below sea level. The lake has been a retreat for wealthy families and prominent figures since Roman times. Today, it is known for its dramatic mountain setting, historic towns, villas, gardens, architecture, and cultural heritage. Notable properties around the lake include Villa Olmo, Villa Serbelloni, and Villa Carlotta. Over the years, a number of well-known figures have owned or occupied homes around Lake Como, including George Clooney, Gianni Versace, Madonna, Matthew Bellamy, Richard Branson, Sylvester Stallone, Julian Lennon, Ronaldinho, Ben Spies, and Pierina Legnani. Its combination of Alpine scenery, historic architecture, lakeside villages, grand villas, and gardens has made Lake Como one of the best-known destinations in northern Italy.
